Maynooth Train Station

The project is an important step in our future infrastructure, as the country has faced rapid population growth over the last decade and outdated transport facilities cannot cater to the increasing commuter numbers. As part of a nationwide initiative, major investment has been put into stations across the country such as Maynooth with the vision of improving much needed transport services in many ways including:

• Making Irish rail station services more accessible to all users, including disability users who require extra services to use the rail facilities. Sadly current facilities at many stations prevent disability users from accessing rail services. The new station infrastructures allow access to the stations and their services.

• Accommodating a growing commuter population using the existing rail services both ways to and from Dublin for work purposes daily.

• Providing improved transport services for the university population, a sector of which is rapidly expanding in the last number of years due to increasing rent prices and lack of accommodation availability.

Collaborating with our client and their design team on this project, we carried out the steelwork required as with many of the other stations nationwide that saw the same or similar upgrades, as part of a huge nationwide transport infrastructure improvement project. It challenged us in terms of time restrictions and strict deadlines, as the station was open throughout the project. This meant some installation elements needed to be efficient and at certain times, such as lifting the bridge into place required overnight installation only after the daily train services had finished.

This project also plays an enormous role in improving daily life for disability users, truly making a difference in people’s lives. Together with our clients we realise the importance of working towards a future of inclusivity and accessibility, and we believe this project is one that may forge a future of altered design thinking to include all types of service users.

We as the steel specialist contractor were proud to be part of another station upgrade which is working towards improvements for our future and the future of the upcoming Irish population.
