Marcus P. Graham Ironworks fabricated a bespoke galvanized and painted steel edging system for the Cairns T2 Block A development. Modeled in Tekla, this modular system uses 5mm base plates and 4mm stiffening fins to create precise, durable, and clean landscape borders throughout the residential site.
The Story
The Cairns T2 Block A landscaping project required an edging solution that balanced structural durability with architectural elegance. Tasked with this challenge, Marcus P. Graham Ironworks Ltd developed a modular steel edging system that serves as both a structural boundary and a defining visual element within the residential grounds.
The design team utilized Tekla Structures to detail each individual section, ensuring that complex, curved, and straight runs flowed perfectly across the site’s topography. Each assembly used robust 5mm base plates and 4mm perforated stiffening fins , which were precisely CNC-cut and welded to provide superior lateral rigidity.
By incorporating precision-drilled holes and slots, the edging could be easily installed on-site, allowing the landscapers to achieve seamless, continuous transitions between the lawn areas and the hard-landscaped paths. To ensure the edging would withstand long-term exposure to soil moisture and the elements, every component underwent a rigorous galvanizing process followed by a protective paint finish.
This project demonstrates how seemingly simple site infrastructure can be transformed through precise engineering. By treating landscaping edges as structural components, we ensured that the borders would not warp or shift over time, maintaining the site’s high-quality aesthetic and functional integrity for the residents of Cairns T2 Block A.
Why It Should Win
This project should win because it exemplifies how professional steel detailing and fabrication can elevate even the most fundamental site elements. While landscape edging is often overlooked, the Cairns T2 Block A development utilized a system engineered to the same rigorous standards as primary structural steelwork.
, Marcus P. Graham Ironworks ensured that this edging provided a level of durability and longevity that far surpasses standard, off-the-shelf alternatives. The precision achieved through our Tekla-led process allowed for complex curves to be fabricated off-site and installed with minimal effort, providing a high-end finish that perfectly complements the surrounding modern architecture. This project highlights our ability to deliver bespoke, high-volume architectu
ral metalwork that is both aesthetically sophisticated and structurally sound, proving that meticulous engineering is the key to successful, lasting public-realm developments.
