Structural Steel Fabricator
The Story
Willis Steel Ltd was proud to serve as the principal structural steel fabrication Contractor for the landmark redevelopment of Dexcom Stadium. Our involvement encompassed three major elements of the project: the High Performance Centre (HPC), Indoor Pitch Facility, and the North Stand development.
This prestigious project represented one of the most significant sporting infrastructure developments undertaken in Ireland in recent years, requiring extensive collaboration between designers, contractors, and specialist trades to deliver a modern, world-class facility. The completed development has transformed the stadium environment and is now fully operational and open to the public, providing enhanced facilities for athletes, supporters, and the wider community.
Willis Steel Ltd was responsible for the fabrication and delivery of the structural steelwork packages across all three developments. The project demanded a high level of technical expertise, precision engineering, and rigorous quality control to ensure the successful integration of complex steel structures within a live construction environment.
A key challenge throughout the project was the coordination of multiple steelwork packages across different phases of the development programme. The High Performance Centre, Indoor Pitch, and North Stand each presented unique structural requirements and interfaces with other construction disciplines. Maintaining programme schedules while ensuring the highest standards of fabrication quality required detailed planning, close stakeholder collaboration, and effective communication across all project teams.
Further challenges arose from the scale and complexity of the structural elements involved, including the fabrication, sequencing, and delivery of large steel components to a constrained site. Through proactive project management, advanced fabrication techniques, and the dedication of our experienced workforce, Willis Steel successfully met these challenges while maintaining strict safety, quality, and programme objectives.
The successful completion of the Dexcom Stadium redevelopment demonstrates Willis Steel Ltd's capability to deliver large-scale, high-profile structural steel projects. Our contribution has helped create a modern sporting facility that will serve athletes, supporters, and the community for generations to come.
A significant factor in the success of the Dexcom Stadium redevelopment was the dedication, professionalism, and expertise of the Willis Steel Ltd team. From project management, detailing (Struccie Design Associates), Engineering Consultant – Tom Hannon of OBB Consulting Engineers through to fabrication, quality control, logistics, and site support, every member of the team played a vital role in delivering this landmark project.
The scale and complexity of the development demanded exceptional commitment throughout the project lifecycle. Our staff consistently demonstrated flexibility, attention to detail, and a determination to meet programme requirements while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. Their ability to overcome challenges, collaborate effectively with project stakeholders, and deliver critical milestones was instrumental to the successful completion of the works.
Willis Steel Ltd is immensely proud of the contribution made by our workforce. The completion of Dexcom Stadium stands as a testament to their skill, dedication, and craftsmanship. This project not only showcases our technical capabilities as a structural steel specialist but also reflects the strength, professionalism, and commitment of the people who represent our company every day.
Why It Should Win
The Dexcom Stadium redevelopment stands apart due to its scale, complexity, and significance within Irish sporting infrastructure. As a project comprising the High Performance Centre, Indoor Pitch Facility, and North Stand development, it required the successful delivery of multiple major structural steel packages within a single, high-profile development.
Over 600 tonnes of structural steel were fabricated and delivered by Willis Steel Ltd across the three developments, demonstrating the company's capability to successfully execute large-scale, technically demanding projects.
What distinguishes this project is not only the quality of the finished structures but also the collaborative approach adopted throughout its delivery. Willis Steel Ltd worked closely with the design team, main contractor, and project stakeholders to ensure that challenging programme requirements and complex structural interfaces were successfully managed without compromising quality, safety, or performance.
The project showcases the versatility and importance of structural steel in creating modern sporting facilities. From large-span structural elements to the integration of multiple building types across the development, the steelwork formed the backbone of a facility that will serve athletes, supporters, and the wider community for decades to come.
The successful completion of the project reflects the expertise, innovation, and commitment of the Willis Steel Ltd team. Through meticulous planning, precision fabrication, and exceptional attention to detail, the company delivered a project that meets the highest standards of structural integrity and workmanship.
Most importantly, this is a project that leaves a lasting legacy. Dexcom Stadium is now a landmark sporting venue, open and fully operational, providing world-class facilities that support the future growth of sport in Ireland. Willis Steel Ltd is proud to have played a key role in delivering a development of such national significance.
This project should be recognised for its technical excellence, outstanding project delivery, quality craftsmanship, and the dedication of the people who brought it from concept to completion. It represents the very best of what the Irish structural steel industry can achieve.
