For projects that are scheduled to last more than 30 days, involve more than one contractor or involve a particular risk, it is a legal duty of the farmer (the client – the person for whom the project is being carried out) under health and safety legislation to appoint, in writing, before design work commences, a competent Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP) and, before any construction work begins, a competent Project Supervisor for the Construction Stage (PSCS).

During the Design Stage: The farmer/client in conjunction with the designer and slat supplier / steel fabricator etc, should consider all risks involved in the construction. During the Construction Stage: The PSCS/Contractor must ensure that existing agricultural slats are not exposed to excessive loads. All of our Members that undertake Fabrication of Farm Buildings have been Audited to EN 1090 CE Marking of Structural Steel, they have in place Insurance and a Health & Safety Policy. It is your responsibility as the Farmer / Client / End User to make sure that the Company you employ and the material you use are in compliance with the current regulations. All farm buildings under construction require netting and edge protection, when contractors are working from teleporter baskets, cherry pickers, scissor lifts etc they need to have harnesses fitted and secured. Please ask for a Method Statement and Risk Assessments before work begins.
