Structural Steel, Harbour Amenity Building
McMenamin Engineering · Killybegs, Co.Donegal
Finalist in: Recreation & Education
Supply & erection of structural steel which consisted of 3d modelling, fabrication drawings, in-house fabrication, welding, application of 2pac epoxy paint & galvanised items.
The Story
This amenity building will provide reception and meeting facilities as well as laundry and shower facilities for visiting boats. The clever design of the building incorporates elements of the sailing masts and boats hulls that surround it in the busy fishing port of Killybegs.
With the complexity of the roof structure which was to incorporate sailing masts, the only solution for fabrication/assembly was to have various sections of the roof fully welded. To assure everything fitted, we took it upon ourselves to do a trail fit within the workshop to avoid any discrepancies/misalignments onsite.
Why It Should Win
This small project had many different features, designs, roof slopes and double bevel cuts on steel profiles. It was important that during the detailing stage that clear & precise fabrication drawings was created. This project challenged our steel detailer, material preparation operatives, fabricators and site erection team. The pictures speak for themselves of good workmanship by the whole team and how well everything fitted together.
