Wolfe Tone Pedestrian Bridge, Galway
Pat Rynn Engineering Ltd · Galway
Finalist in: Bridges & Walkways
The Story
We tendered the Wolfe Tone pedestrian bridge project in April 2023 for a number of building contractors. We were awarded the contract by Kenny Civil Construction who had successfully won the contract. Ryan Hanley Consultant Engineers were the designers for Galway City Council.
We drew our 3D model of the bridge and held regular meetings at our workshop where the design and all developing elements of the works were discussed in detail with the design team. We blasted the assemblies before assembly, galvanised by Sperrin Galvanisers, painted to specification at our workshop and pre-assembled in our workshop.
Pre assembly also included the fitting of the stainless steel balustrade. Fitting involved road closures and night work to minimise disruption. Once in place we completed the fitting of the aluminium decking and completed the joint fabrication and polishing of the stainless steel railing to the main structure.
Why It Should Win
We believe the end result specks for itself and is currently being used by thousands of proud Galwegians and visiting tourists from around the globe.
