The Story

Castle Paints is operating one of Ireland’s most sustainable paint factories with focus on VOC reduction and provision of water-based alternatives for industrial solvent-based products.

Recycling is key to our operations, and we are focusing on becoming a paperless office. We have recently invested in reusable pallet wrapping which is reducing the need for plastic pallet wrapping at our site. Our staff are key to our recycling drive and are all on-board to continue to minimise waste creation and encourage recycling where possible. Solvents that can be re-used are reprocessed where possible minimising waste generated within our process. We also supply some of our customer base with their product in refillable/returnable containers to promote a culture of waste reduction across all our business partners.

Sustainability is at the core of operations in Castle Paints and over the past number of years the company has invested heavily in PV solar panels, currently we have two 44kw solar systems active facilitating the total energy requirement during the longer Summer months and approx. 75% of our energy requirements in the Winter period.

Our whole production facility in Tullamore, Co Offaly has been bunded that there can be no spillages into the outside environment. Surface water can be held in an underground reservoir, so that in an emergency such as a fire/flood there would be no soil or groundwater contamination from our plant.

Our development team are focused on consistently reducing VOC’s within our product range and they are currently in the process of securing our first Environmental Product Declarations for a range of products. This declaration will provide transparency for procurement teams to make the right environmental choices when choosing paint products.

Such is our in-house culture of promoting environmental awareness and continuous improvement, in 2022 we achieved our ISO14001 for our environmental management system. We have since joined the Irish Green Building Council as silver members and are advocating for the plans that they are campaigning for reducing the carbon footprint of the construction sector as a whole.

Thank you for your consideration.
