The Story

In 2021, OMC recognising the ever-increasing importance of direct, timely and accurate communication with our mobile and site based crews, primarily in relation to safety, health and welfare, but including other areas such as payroll, training, job scheduling etc., decided to utilise technology to develop a more effective and efficient methodology for two-way communication within the company .

OMC commenced a review of available technologies and methodologies on the market and decided to develop our own bespoke app with the assistance of ConnecTeams and Grattan Computers. Included in the brief was the need to deliver toolbox talks, issue RAMS and complete QC documentation.

Further capability requirements included the ability to simply and easily complete site clock in/out and submit timesheets to payroll, in addition to other functionality. Following development, a trial version of the app was released to a test group, working on the New Children's Hospital project.

Based on learnings and feedback from this test group, the app was modified and is now in full use across all OMC projects. The app modules in use cover instant chat, Updates, Time clock, RAMS, Toolbox talks, Forms, Job Scheduling, Training, Induction, Knowledge Base (Library) and has the functionality to add more modules as necessary.

Improvement's generated include sign offs' for RAMS and toolbox talks can now be directly emailed to client EHS managers and direct, traceable H&S communications to site crews including the transmission direct to each individual member of a crew of any site safety notifications received from site EHS in real time.

OMC recognised the importance of enabling our site crews to have a voice on their own safety and empower them to be part of the overall solution. Site crews can chat directly with each other and management in relation to any H&S queries or questions that they have and receive answers in real-time.

The development and implementation of the app across the company has significantly improved the communications process in OMC and allowed information to flow freely, directly and accurately to and from all levels and functions within the company.
