Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Learning & Development College
Peter Martin Engineering · Cookstown
Finalist in: Architectural Metalwork – Staircases
Project Gallery
This project involves the development and construction of a new Learning and Development Centre with classrooms that will provide a national base for high quality standardised training and education for the NIFRS. The facility will include a specialist driving and road traffic collision training area and a training environment for collapsed buildings and below ground rescue.
The Story
Peter Martin Engineering Ltd was appointed to NIFRS to design, fabricate and fit the main structural stair with glass balustrades.
Why It Should Win
This project deserves to win because it perfectly demonstrates how high-end architectural metalwork can transform a critical public facility through engineering precision, aesthetic impact, and extreme value for money.
The stair acts as the primary visual anchor for the entire national facility's main hub, combining minimalist glass balustrades with structural steel seamlessly complements RPP Architects' vision, flooding the multi-story atrium with natural light.
The project was executed exactly to spec, proving Peter Martin Engineering's reliability as a critical supply chain partner for complex public sector builds.
