OMC Technologies · North Wall Dublin
Finalist in: Architectural Metalwork – Staircases
Project Gallery
OMC were contracted to install this superb helical stair in the main atrium of No. 3 Dublin landings for IPUT. No.3 forms part of Dublin Landings, which is a mixed use development extending to over 1 million sq ft (92,900 sq m). The scheme is home to the National Treasury Management Agency of Ireland (NTMA) and the Central Bank of Ireland. High-end apartments, dining, leisure, and a boutique hotel complete the development ensuring occupiers will attract a dynamic and talented workforce. Dublin Landings has become a location of choice for leading organisations.
The Story
This Helical stairs was designed by MCA Architects as a main feature in the atrium. This was a fitout contract for INICIO Interiors . As the building envelope was complete, our only access for getting the stair in was through a double exit door. This had a lot of restrictions on design and assembly on site. Working closely with MCA & OCSC, OMC developed the design and generated a 3D model that was approved for construction. The stair was manufactured in small sections to account for site access. It was assembled in full in our workshop, where we began forming the curved panels for the balustrade outer skin. The inner sides and treads were lined with timber . Handrails were fitted with integrated LED lighting. The stair has feature planters , feature balustrade with vertical rods and seating integrated under the half landing.
Why It Should Win
This stair is worthy of winning an award due to its superior finish, its location and the workmanship required to get such a large structure into a finished building. The combination of materials and colours make this stair and surrounding planters a magnificent engineering statement in the main atrium.
