ODS Engineering | Coldstores, Mallow, Co. Cork

Finalist In: Finished Projects | Constructional Steelwork
Project Story:

ODS Engineering (formerly O’Dwyer Steel) was appointed by Lyonara Coldstores to deliver a major cold storage expansion in Mallow, Co. Cork. The scope included 200 tonnes of structural steel and over 10,000m² of Kingspan KS1000RW roof and wall panels. A key highlight was the 37-metre clear span lattice truss and 12-metre eaves, providing expansive, high-bay storage essential for cold chain operations.

Using Tekla Structures, ODS produced a precise 3D model of the steelwork. This was integrated with Trimble X7 point cloud scans of the concrete bases and prior works, ensuring millimetre-perfect fit and reducing the need for on-site modification. All steel was fire-protected with intumescent paint to meet 60-minute resistance standards.

The Kingspan panels provided a continuous thermal envelope, enhancing both energy efficiency and building performance. Installation followed a just-in-time delivery model, reducing site congestion and aligning with tight project timelines

Close collaboration with Lyonara Coldstores, strict quality control, and proactive safety management ensured zero incidents. The project was delivered on schedule and within budget.

Philio Keeshan praised ODS for their professionalism and precision. This project stands as a benchmark in combining digital engineering, advanced fabrication, and trusted delivery in the pharmaceutical cold storage sector.

The Nominee Says

In conclusion, this project highlights ODS Engineering’s capabilities in managing and executing large-scale, technically complex projects in the industrial and cold storage sectors.

From initial design and digital surveying to fabrication, fireproofing, and installation, every stage was handled with professionalism and accuracy.

The successful delivery of this facility not only strengthens our relationship with Lyonara Coldstores but also reinforces ODS Engineering’s reputation as a trusted partner in structural steel and cladding solutions.
