Extreme Balconies | Balcony & Façade System, Airton Road, Tallaght
Project Vision & Our Role
The Airton Road residential development is a bold addition to Dublin’s urban landscape. As part of Walls Construction’s commitment to delivering modern, sustainable homes, the project required a balcony and façade solution that balanced architectural impact with construction efficiency.
Our role was to design, fabricate, and install 435 bespoke balconies. Each balcony helps articulate the large building elevations, creating visual rhythm, material contrast, and outdoor amenity space for residents. We are nominating the completed blocks where our systems have been fully delivered and installed.
Design Approach & Innovation
The project required a next-generation balcony system. We developed a new aluminium balustrade profile, integrating glass for a modern finish. A slimline balcony base was engineered for structural strength while remaining visually minimal. A bespoke soffit panel system completed the underside aesthetic, and a concealed drainage pipe was integrated to manage water runoff while preserving clean lines.
The façades also feature large structural columns expressed architecturally. These sleeve-fitted columns required careful coordination where they intersected with balconies.
Technical Execution
Our team used Tekla Structures 3D modelling and clash detection to resolve drainage runs, soffit interfaces, and connection details. A modular fabrication strategy allowed for repetition at scale while accommodating architectural variety.
Operational Delivery
Prefabricated balcony bases arrived on-site with balustrades and soffits pre-installed. Balconies were craned into place and fixed to pre-cast stubs without post-installation adjustment. Our team scaled to over 20 site staff to meet a fast-tracked programme.
Was a Success
Airton Road sets a benchmark for Irish balcony design — combining innovation, precision, and efficiency on one of Dublin’s most significant residential developments.
The Airton Road project represents a major success in modern balcony and façade delivery. It combines architectural vision, structural coordination, and manufacturing precision, all delivered at scale and on a fast-paced programme. Our ability to meet both design intent and construction efficiency is what sets this project apart.
Architectural Contribution: The balconies are a defining feature. Bespoke aluminium balustrades create clean vertical lines, while slimline bases reduce visual bulk. A concealed drainage system and neatly finished soffits contribute to a high-end, contemporary aesthetic. Each element was designed to enhance the building’s architectural language while providing private outdoor space in a dense urban setting.
Technical Coordination: Balconies interfaced with large structural columns expressed on the façade. Using Tekla Structures for 3D modelling and clash detection, we coordinated stubs, drainage, connections, and soffits in advance. This eliminated installation clashes and supported Walls Construction’s strict programme targets.
Manufacturing Excellence: Balcony bases were welded at our facility for structural accuracy and consistency. Units were fully assembled off-site with balustrades, soffits, drainage, and finishings. This method improved output, reduced site labour, and ensured consistent quality across over 400 units.
On-Site Efficiency: Installed onto pre-cast stubs placed with our templating system, balconies were craned in and bolted on with no adjustments. This reduced crane time and enabled installation to run in parallel with unit handovers.
Local Skills & Impact: Every stage was handled by our Irish team, supporting skilled local jobs and reducing reliance on imported systems.
