Turmec | Mixed Dry Recycling Project, Clondalkin , Dublin 22

Finalist In: Finished Projects | Structural Steel - Bespoke
Project Story:

At Turmec, we don’t just build recycling plants—we help shape the future of waste recovery. The Mixed Dry Recyclables (MDR) facility in Clondalkin is Ireland’s most advanced of its kind, representing what’s possible when visionary clients, cutting-edge engineering, and close collaboration align.

The brief was clear: future-proof operations, maximise recovery, and minimise labour while creating long-term community value. We listened closely, designing a system that delivers precision, automation, and adaptability. Over a 25-week timeline, Turmec led full-scale design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning—moving over 50 loads of equipment, with 16 weeks of installation and 28 days of commissioning.

Seamless communication, vendor coordination, and a client-focused approach ensured success.

The plant handles 18–20 tonnes per hour using advanced technology:

  • BRT Bag Openers
  • Eco-Star Hexact 4000 screens
  • Optical sorters for PET, HDPE, and fibre
  • Magnetic and eddy current separators
  • Dual balers and intelligent bunker systems

All fabricated in-house by Turmec’s EN1090-certified team, built for durability and performance. This facility enhances Dublin’s green economy, creates jobs, and supports Ireland’s landfill reduction goals.

The Nominee Says

Turmec’s Recycling MDR facility is Ireland’s most advanced of its kind—an example of what’s possible when innovation, collaboration, and local expertise align.

From the outset, we worked closely with the client to deliver a future-proof, fully automated plant with maximum recovery rates, minimal labour needs, and the flexibility to adapt to evolving material streams. The result: a 20 TPH mixed dry recyclables facility that sets a new national benchmark.

In just 25 weeks, Turmec completed full design, fabrication, and installation using advanced technology—precision optical sorters, dual balers, and intelligent bunkers—all engineered and built in Ireland by our in-house team.

But beyond the technology, this project delivers real impact:

  • Dramatic increases in recovery
  • Reduced landfill reliance
  • New green jobs in Dublin
  • Long-term, low-maintenance performance

As a Gaeltacht-based company, Turmec is proud to have brought together a multi-disciplinary team and managed all suppliers as the single point of contact.

This is more than a plant. It’s a national milestone—and a testament to the future of recycling: smarter, cleaner, faster, and built with heart.
