Architectural Metalwork – Staircases

Have you and your collaborative team crafted an exceptional staircase that stands as a true work of art, masterfully combining flawless, safe functionality with breathtaking aesthetic design and precise installation?

From structurally innovative forms and daring cantilevers to intricately detailed balustrades of steel, glass or other materials, and elegantly flowing handrails, we’re seeking genuine architectural masterpieces. This award acknowledges the design vision of architects, the structural ingenuity of engineers, and the superb craftsmanship of fabricators and installers who bring these complex creations to life.

Who should nominate?

Steel fabricators, architectural metalworkers, design firms, and engineering consultancies who have collaboratively designed, engineered, fabricated, and installed exceptional steel staircases, including all associated structures, balustrades, and handrails, that significantly elevate architectural design and user experience.

Eligibility & Key considerations

Your work on the nominated staircase project must have been completed or significantly progressed between 1st July 2023 and 30th June 2025.

The staircase must have been substantially fabricated by a business based on the island of Ireland (though its final erected location can be outside of Ireland).

Entries should vividly showcase the aesthetic quality and originality of the design, the complexity and precision of the fabrication and on-site installation, the quality of materials and finishes used, robust structural integrity and safety compliance, and seamless integration with the surrounding architecture. Strong evidence of exceptional craftsmanship, proficiency in bespoke fabrication and advanced finishing techniques, attention to detail, technical precision, innovation, and adherence to all relevant standards and best practices is crucial.

What the Judges are looking for

Overall quality of the finished staircase, its visual impact, and craftsmanship; Innovation and originality in architectural and structural design; Technical Execution in complex fabrication, welding, finishing, and installation; Collaboration between the architect, engineer, fabricator, and installer; Uniqueness of the design solution and its integration within the space.
