Constructional Steelwork – Civil Works

Did your collaborative team skilfully employ Irish steel to forge critical infrastructure connections, power essential public services, or deliver landmark projects such as roads, iconic bridges, complex tunnels, vital port facilities, or advanced water/waste treatment plants?

We seek to honour outstanding civil engineering marvels born from strong partnerships and technical excellence. This award recognises projects where structural steel plays a fundamental role in creating durable, impactful public infrastructure, showcasing exceptional skill in design by consulting engineers, precision fabrication by steelwork contractors, and expert execution by main contractors and specialist erection teams in often challenging environments.

Who should nominate?

Lead steel fabricators, principal civil engineering contractors, specialist sub-contractors for steel erection, design and engineering consultancies who have demonstrably excelled in the successful delivery of significant steel-based civil infrastructure projects through a collaborative approach.

Eligibility & Key considerations

Your work on the nominated civil works project must have been completed or a significant phase substantially progressed (e.g., main steel structure installed) between 1st July 2023 and 30th June 2025.

The structural steelwork must have been predominantly produced by a registered steel fabrication business based on the island of Ireland (though the final erected location can be outside of Ireland).

Entries should meticulously focus on the complexity of the engineering challenges overcome, the exceptional quality and durability of the fabricated and erected steelwork, the innovative or collaborative solutions implemented by the entire project team (from designers to site crews), strict adherence to rigorous safety and environmental standards, and the project’s lasting positive benefit to the public or the wider community.

What the Judges are looking for

Quality of end results and long-term durability; Innovation and Technical Execution in design, fabrication, and erection (especially in challenging conditions); Project Complexity, scale, and logistical management; Collaboration with clients, public bodies, and the entire project delivery team (design engineers, specialist contractors, geotechnical consultants etc.); Uniqueness of the solution and its positive contribution to public infrastructure or services.

Submission Requirements

  1. Nomination Type
  2. Business Name
  3. Project Title (e.g., “[Name] Bridge Replacement” or “[Location] Port Expansion – Steel Piles”)
  4. Project Location
  5. Project Team (Essential where available): Details for: Client/Commissioning Body; Lead Design Engineer/Consultancy; Geotechnical Engineer (if significant); Main Civil Contractor; Steelwork Fabricator; Steel Erector; Project Management Consultant; Quantity Surveyor. Please specify roles clearly for each.
  6. Project Summary (max 50 words)
  7. Full Project Description (max 1,000 words): Tell us the story of the project. Include details such as an outline of the project’s purpose, key structural steel elements, design challenges (e.g., environmental constraints, ground conditions, public interface), fabrication specifics (e.g., heavy sections, complex welds, coatings), erection methodology (e.g., craneage, temporary works, possession working), and how the team collaborated to deliver a successful outcome.
  8. Why Should It Win?
  9. Project Images (min 2, max 5 high-quality)
  10. Company Logo (PNG)
  11. Optional: Key engineering drawings, drone footage of erection, public commendations.

These awards are here to recognise you — the individuals, teams and businesses behind the projects that are shaping Ireland. Whether you’ve delivered a complex structural build, engineered a finely crafted bespoke piece, or if you’ve driven a company initiative worth shouting about, this is your opportunity to share your achievements with the wider industry.

You can enter more than one category — just make sure each submission is made separately. All shortlisted entries will be included in the public or peer voting process.

Some entries for some categories must be based on work that was completed or significantly progressed between 1st July 2023 and 30th June 2025; some other categories don’t specify the time, so just keep an eye out.
